Interpretation of the results
The experimenters proposed two possible theories why own-name condition revealed an unexpected result.
1) Detecting one’s own name is attentionally undemanding.
2) The second explanation suggests that the target task demands an amount of disproportionate resources.
Making the target the subjects own name may shed some light on which theory is more likely.
The results from the next two experiments (3,4) seem to suggest that the second of the two theories best explains the surprising results
